How It Works
The Secret Recipe Club was born from an idea I had one day while trying to come up with ways to bring more exposure to my cooking blog, Amanda’s Cookin’. I thought it would be fun to make a recipe from a friend’s blog and that friend could do the same. But instead of just two of us, I thought it would be fun to include several and that would also help give added exposure to my food blog and those of some of my blogging friends. I have been a member of a Secret Sister Club before and of course we are all familiar with the Secret Santa concept that comes about at holiday time. And so it began…Our first month yielded 19 participants, all foodie friends I met through a discussion group I run. The concept is simple really. Each month you are “assigned” a participating food blogger to make a recipe from. It’s a secret, so don’t tell them you are making something from their blog!
You simply choose any recipe from the blog you are assigned, make or bake it, and blog about it on the date specified. In your post you will link back to the blog you were assigned. There should be two links to said blogger within your post; one to the recipe post of the recipe you chose and one to their homepage. As you normally would, be sure to list any comments about the recipe and list any changes or adaptations that you made. There will be a piece of code you will need to paste into your post that will display the recipe blog hop links. Only Secret Recipe Club member posts will be displayed in the blog hop. Everyone participating will post their recipe on the same designated date. You will receive a new secret blog each month. Repeats will depend on how many bloggers participate.
So that’s the basic concept and it’s turned into a very fun way to discover new blogs, make new friends, and step outside of our comfort zones! If you think you’re interested, you can join the SRC by filling out the form here.
